Neuro Otology Clinic

This center provides a specialist service for the Diagnosis, Investigation, Management and Rehabilitation of Complex Auditory and Vestibular Disorders, Including Skull Base Surgery. The department houses state-of-the-art assessment and management of balance disorders, including a dedicated Balance Clinic.

The clinic benefits from a multidisciplinary team including Otolaryngologist, Audiologist, a Specialist Nurse, a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and a Speech and Language Therapist and provides an Integrated Rehabilitation Management.

As part of a team with neurosurgeons, the center has developed expertise in surgical diseases and disorders of the cranial nerves and skull base.

Advanced training in Lateral Skull Base Surgery

Skull Base Surgery

Dr. Bhavin Parikh had an exclusive training in lateral skull base surgeries (like complicated facial nerve surgeries, transtemporal approaches to posterior cranial fossa tumors and microvascular decompression of lower cranial nerves) at one of the best centre in the world at Hospital Nord, Aix Mareille University, Marseille, France under Professor Jacques Magnan. He has coauthored a well known book on "Functional Surgery of Cerebellopontine angle by Minimally Invasive Retrosigmoid Approach" by Jacques Magnan, Bhavin Parikh, Hidemi Miyazaki, Jaypee Brothers, New Delhi, First edition released in April 2013 at European Academy of Neurootology meet in Nice, France, which has got huge response from ENT surgeons as well as Neurosurgeons all over the world.

Indications for Patient Referral

Referrals are made to the Vestibular Function Testing Laboratory for patients with vertigo and balance problems and to the Audiometric Testing Laboratory for patients with hearing deficiencies.

Facial Nerve Disorders

Skull Base Tumors

  • Acoustic tumors (vestibular schwannomas)
  • Meningiomas
  • All tumors affecting the ear, temporal bone, or posterior fossa.

It was one of its kind dedicated surgical workshop on Functional Disorders of Various Cranial Nerves with Functional Endoscope Assisted Surgeries of Cerebellopontine angle.
